Tenor Banjo Lessons

The Tenor banjo is the 4 string member of the Banjo family. Originally the strings were tuned the same as a viola ( CGDA ), but these days, more commonly  it is tuned to an octave below the violin ( GDAE ). It is mainly used for playing traditional Irish and American music and if you learnt the violin at school, you’re off to a head start.

I’m very fond of my tenor banjo. It dates from the 1920’s and I got it for a song on Ebay.

I take all levels of students, from complete beginners and upwards, so if you’re just starting out, don’t worry.  Lessons can be 30 mins or an hour, it’s up to you. The first step is to contact me and we can discuss your needs and interests.

I am available in Edinburgh from 9am to 8pm on weekdays, and some weekends.

In Glasgow, I am available one Saturday a month, by arrangement.
